What is Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT)?

Couple therapy is helpful for treating and preventing relationship distress. IBCT is an evidence based therapeutic approach for couples that focuses on facilitating change and acceptance based on your relationship’s needs. Couples will learn to recognize and understand their relationship through considering important factors, such as their differences, emotional sensitivities (or vulnerabilities), external stressors, and pattern(s) of problematic interactions. Couples who complete IBCT learn to make concrete behavioral changes to show greater emotional acceptance for one another and accommodate each partner’s needs. IBCT consists of two major phases, an evaluation/feedback phase and an active treatment phase. The typical course of therapy lasts between 6 and 12 months.
